Dr. O

Orthodontist, DDS

Dr. Eric Ornella was born on February 27, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Impressed by his orthodontist at age twelve, he graduated from Forest Park High School in 1974, certain of his goal to become an orthodontist. He received his BS from the University of Dayton in 1978 and attended Case Western Reserve University for both dental school (DDS, 1982) and postgraduate orthodontic specialty training (MSD, 1984.)

Dr. Ornella's lifelong dream of having his own orthodontic office in Cincinnati became real, in June 1984.  After only eight months in practice, Dr. Ornella discovered just how important his career was to him when an automobile accident resulted in the severe fracture of his twelfth thoracic vertebrae. Although he lost the use of his legs and would have chronic pain, Dr. Ornella was thankful to God that he sustained no other injuries and would be able to resume his career. He found inspiration in the love and support that he received, not only from his family and friends, but also from his church, his patients and their families. Six months after the accident, Dr. Ornella was back seeing his patients, impressed by their loyalty. Not a single patient transferred to another orthodontist during his recovery, further strengthening his dedication to a patient-centered, service-oriented style of practice.

Dr. Ornella is always grateful for opportunities to give back to the community. He has served as board member and vice president of Independent Living Options, as vice president of the executive board of Everybody Counts, and he has sponsored Swim-Fest at Coney Island. Since 1986, he has volunteered as a speaker for Everybody Counts, telling third and fourth graders at many of the local schools about his adventures in a wheelchair, while at the same time educating them about the challenges faced by those with disabilities. He enjoys sponsoring girls’ and boys’ soccer, baseball, and softball teams, as well as supporting our schools, with silent auction contributions, career day presentations, class T-shirt sponsorships, and yearbook and poster ads.

Dr. Ornella's family includes: his wife Julia, a registered nurse, who helps out at the front desk when needed, and especially enjoys organizing monthly patient events, and his two sons, Devin (1983) and Brett (1985). Dr. Ornella's interests include:

  • Music: Dr. Ornella listens to rock, blues, and jazz, to mention a few; and plays his electric guitar, taking inspiration from Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. He has a number of electric and acoustic guitars, with his favorite being an Ibanez JS 1000 he was lucky enough to get autographed by Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
  • Books: An avid reader, Dr Ornella especially loves fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction and biographies.
  • Movies: Action, adventure, and science fiction generally top the Ornella’s ‘most viewed’ list.
  • Sports: Being a lifelong sports fan, Dr. Ornella follows the Bengals, Reds, Cavs, Bearcats and Musketeers and attends the annual Tennis Masters Series in Mason.

Most importantly, however, Dr. Ornella enjoys sharing all of these interests while having fun with his family and friends.
